In order to get rid of them, the important thing to do is to relax.
That may be easier said than done. Deliberately making your breathing slow and controlled, is a good way to bring about that relaxation. Difficulty in breathing is often an initial sign of an attack, and in trying to catch your breath, you may end up panting. Taking slow and controlled breaths will allow the panic to dissipate as the heart rate falls.
When practicing the breathing techniques of getting rid of panic attacks you will experience a calming effect if you breathe even more slowly and deeply. Letting out all the air from your lungs will allow you to breathe much easier. In this way your lungs will take a deeper breath the next time. Paying attention to your breathing out and expelling all air from your lungs will result in you breathing deeper and enjoying a greater calm feeling.
